3. If you really knew me you would know:  

That the ocean has taught me so much in my life and I am forever grateful.  

4. Where do you find joy in your life? 

I find joy in being with my family and sharing experiences in the outdoors.

5. What’s your next adventure?

Everyday is an adventure if you look at it from the right perspective.  I have grown to really appreciate what is directly in front of you and not to worry about what is happening elsewhere.  Appreciating what I have and not worrying about what I don’t have.

6. What is your superpower? 

Smiling. 

7. What does it mean to be a man? 

Being a man means serving as a positive role model and an example for the younger generations. To be strong and to help guide.  To use your wisdom and experiences to mentor. 

8. Right now, what do you want and how do you feel?  

I want to be as present as possible.  Appreciate the now.  

I feel amazing when I’m in that head space.

9. What has been your biggest challenge?  

I’ve faced a few challenges.  In 2001 I stopped competing full time but I didn’t feel like I was ready for that to happen.  I struggled with my feelings about what direction I should go and it took me years to figure it out.  And right after that in 2007 I went through a very challenging divorce which took years to resolve.  But all of that is behind me now and I am here. 

10. What has been your peak experience?  

I used to say that winning the pipe masters event in 2000 was it for me but now I look back and I believe that losing the world title in 95’ was an amazing experience.  I learned so much about myself in losing that it’s helped guide me through the later years and find peace.  

11. What is your biggest fear?

To be satisfied.  I always feel like I can make something better, be more creative, push myself to keep finding new ways, and keep it exciting.

12. What about Vuori resonates with you?

Vuori represents the Southern California lifestyle.  It’s about doing what you love and staying fit and healthy so we can do these things for as long as possible.  There are inspiring people all around us.  Just need to be aware and absorb it all.
