EVRYMAN

Dan Doty and Owen Marcus appearing and sharing their powerful insights on healthy masculinity at Tedx.

Owen explores the intersection of human history and masculinity and reflects on what 10,000 years of progress has cost us emotionally and what we can learn from it. Owen’s journey in healing his dyslexia and Asperger’s Syndrome led him to see a bigger challenge, one that we all face: how to connect emotionally with others. Like many men, Owen was never taught how to relate emotionally to others as a man. Through twenty years designing and redesigning men’s groups, he found a way to provide to men what they were missing. Owen now teaches men how to start their own men’s groups and how to lead men’s groups. The documentary movie, About Men, reveals the innermost workings of the Sandpoint Men’s Group, the group he started in 2005. And in his book Grow Up: A Man’s Guide to Masculine Emotional Intelligence, Owen teaches men – and women – what men were never taught.

Founder of Evryman, Dan Doty, realizes that the role of men in our society, as well as what we are asking of men, is shifting. In order to create the health and safety that is being demanded by our society today, men need to begin with themselves. Dan Doty is a husband, father, writer, filmmaker, coach, host of the Evryman Podcast, and founder of Evryman. He spent many years leading groups of struggling young men through the wilderness and later had a successful career as a director and producer of the hit tv show MeatEater. Early on he became obsessed with what it takes for boys to grow into healthy, happy, impactful men. To this end, his personal mission is to help boys and men be themselves all the way through and to experience the full spectrum of opportunities life has to offer. As part of his role as CEO of Evryman, Dan is the lead facilitator of men’s retreats and wilderness expeditions, and he has helped seed and support 75 men’s groups around the country and the world. He is an avid hunter and is most at home on extended backcountry trips or wrestling with his son Duke.
