Expedition Packing List

We’re excited to have you on our upcoming Expedition. Here’s a packing list of gear that you’ll need for the trip, as well as a list of what we provide and what you can rent. Remember everything you bring, is what you’ll be caring. Be kind to yourself and pack light.

MAJOR ITEMS (RENTAL AVAILABLE)
Tents  We provide (Seek Outside T.P Tents)  
Backpacking Pack 50-80 Liters (capacity) Available to rent
Sleeping bag 0-30 degree with bivy sack Available to rent
Sleeping pad If infaltable its nice to have a patch kit. Thermarest is a great brand Available to rent
Bowl, spoon, mug GSI makes a great lightweight combo / Sea to Summit / REI Brand Available to rent
FOOTWEAR
Boots Appropriate hiking / backpacking boots. Need to be broken in before the trip!(MANDATORY 30 days of wear!!!) My favorite are the Asolo Fugitive GTX / Solomon Quest. Don’t be the guy that shows up with new boots!! Not cool.
Socks 2-3 pairs Synthetic or Wool mix(no cotton socks) Appropriately sized for you foot / boot. Recomned 1 thin liner sock for blister management.
Camp shoe / River Crossing Shoes. (MANDATORY) It’s nice to have a lightweight pair of something to wear after a day on the trail. HAS TO BE CLOSED TOE!. Crocs are great.
UPPER BODY LAYERS
1-3 T-shirts Synthetic or wool (light and quick drying)
Long Sleeve base layer Synthetic or wool (light and quick drying)
Long sleeve bug shirt Synthetic / Old polyester dress shirts work really well!!
Medium weight warm layer Fleece or hoody (synthetic or wool) . NOT COTTON!
Puffy Jacket Light or medium weight, synthetic or down fill.
Rain jacket ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY
LOWER BODY LAYERS
1-4 pairs underwear Synthetic or wool is great but not totally necesary
Bottom base layer Synthetic or wool (light and quick drying)
1-2 pair hiking short Light and quick dry. Awesome to be able to swim in these as well. I just wear one pair, sometimes for weeks at a time.
1-2 pair hiking pant Synthetic and light is best. I just bring 1 pair.
Rain Pants ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY
Gym shorts / swim tunks Nice for hot springs or river baths
 
OTHER
Hat or visor for sun
Beanie / hat for warmth
lightweight gloves
Sunglasses with retention strap
Water bottles or water bladder Nalgene bottles. Have ability to carry at least 3 liters of water
Sun screen and lip balm Small bottle
Inserct repellent Small bottle
Personal care items Toothbrush / toothpaste *All you need!
Headlamp bring extra batteries in a ziplock
Personal meds bring what you need. Please inform the MAG guides what you are bringing before the expedition.
Misc Items LIghter, knife, multi tool, camera, bandana…
Trekking poles OPTIONAL. BUT VERY NICE TO HAVE.
Backpacking chair OPTIONAL. BUT VERY NICE TO HAVE.
